National Seminar Series

RE-LIFING

Continuing Professional Development

The Australian Institute of Architects recognises the challenges faced in the practice of architecture and invites all architects to participate in our upcoming programs. The Institute is constantly developing continuing professional development activities and encourages the profession to actively maintain a broad and high level skill base.

The ‘Refuel’ National Seminar Series is a selection of high quality seminars developed by the national office and delivered across Australia in each capital city (with the addition of Newcastle). In 2008 six different seminars will be delivered, developed by leading industry practitioners who are selected for their expertise in each topic.Under the AACA/RAIA Joint CPD Policy and the NSW Architects Registration Board’s CPE Policy, attending a seminar will provide 2 informal continuing professional points (CPD) or 2 formal CPD points – upon satisfactory completion of the self-assessment activity issued at each National Seminar Series event.

What role do architects have in the sustainable re-development of existing buildings?How can existing commercial buildings compete with the new sustainable buildings built in recent times?What are the costs associated with Re-lifing existing buildings?Jeff Robinson will answer these questions and more as he presents a fresh view on how to approach improving the environmental performance of existing buildings, and the quality of the working environment for the occupants. Case studies from Australia and overseas will demonstrate what building owners and designers have done to successfully Re-life their buildings.The seminar will also highlight;

  • The economic life of buildings and what investments have to be made at different stages to keep them operating safely and reliably.
  • How proposed changes to the BCA will effect building refurbishments.
  • Preparing a master plan for Re-lifing your building.
  • Lower cost investments to tune up the environmental performance of existing buildings.
  • New Technologies which can be employed as part of a sustainable refurbishment.
  • Future trends in building and precinct design and the important role of Re-lifing.
